MYOBRACE - THE TRAINER SYSTEM
Over the last 20 years Myofunctional Research Co. have developed orthodontic appliences to improve the dental and facial development of children from 5 -15 years of age, using myofunctional orthodontic technique instead of traditional orthodontics. This technique not only straightens teeth ( often without braces ), but also treats the cause of crooked teeth and incorrect jaw development.
What causes orthodontic problems?
The majority of our children will develop crowded teeth and incorrect jaw alignment. The real causes of malocclusion are:
1. Tongue thrusting - a human behavioral pattern in which the tongue protrudes through the anterior incisors during swallowing, speech, and while the tongue is at rest.
2. Thumb sucking is the childhood habit of putting the thumb in the mouth for comfort or to relieve stress.
3. Mouth breathing or mouth breathing heabits. The underlying cause of most cases of mouth breathing is an obstructed nasaI airways. In children, mouth breathing can cause crooked teeth, facial deformities, or poor growth.
These habits limit the child's cranio-facial development - resulting in orthodontic problems. 75% of growing children have malocclusion and incorrect facial development.
How Myobrace works
The Myobrace System is a no - braces approach to straightening child's teeth. This treatment can also lead to better facial development in growing children. The key to this treatment is correcting the possition and function of the tongue, obtaining correct nose breathing and retraining the oral muscles to function correctly. The Myobrace trains the tongue to position correctly, encourages correct swallowing and breathing patterns. This is done through the uses of a series of removable dental appliances that are worn for 1- 2 hours each day and overnight while sleeping.
Daily uses of Myobrace combined with regular activities ( to improve breathing, muscle function and tongue posture) results in straighter teeth and improved function, leading to optimal facial development and a healthier smile.
